Clicking on ‘New Template’ will open an editor screen like the above. The fields available are:

  1. Name of the template: Try to have a descriptive name and follow a set nomenclature. It will help you standardize and organize your template library.

  2. Channel: Defining the channel is very important because this would reset the editor with the required fields and the constraints for those channels. The available channels are email, InMail, and LinkedIn connection requests.

  3. Departments: You can select tags from the dropdown to earmark this template with a particular department.

  4. Subject: This is the subject of the email or InMail for the template. You can use personalization variables to make the subject line dynamic. The subject field does not appear when the channel is selected as LinkedIn Connection Request.

  5. Body: This is the message body of the template. Personalization variables are applicable here as well.

You also have the option to edit and/or clone an existing template. You can edit the message subject and the body content. However, once a template is created, the selected channel can not be changed while editing or cloning the template.

For example, you created and saved an email template for the future.

You can edit the template. But it will always be an email template only. It cannot become an InMail template or for any other channel.

Similarly, even if you clone the template, the template clone will again be an email template and cannot be changed to any other channel-aligned template.
